Missouri County Tour Press Releases
May 22 2015
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) recently announced he has successfully completed his second tour of the state since being sworn into the U.S. Senate, visiting each of Missouri’s 114 counties and the City of St. Louis. Along his tour, Blunt visited Cape Girardeau County, where he toured the Community Counseling Center and discussed efforts to improve mental health care on May 28, 2014.
Blunt has made more than 1,000 stops meeting with Missourians in communities all over the state since joining the Senate. In April 2012, Blunt completed his first tour of every Missouri county. Click here for more information on Blunt’s county tour.
“After meeting with mental health care professionals across Missouri, I can tell you they agree that we need to treat behavioral illnesses just like any other physical illness,” Blunt said. “Nearly one in four Americans live with diagnosable mental illness, and I’ll continue working with organizations like the Community Counseling Center in Cape Girardeau to help improve mental health treatment and services.”
Specifically, Blunt discussed the Excellence in Mental Health Act, legislation he introduced in February 2013 to expand access to community mental health services and strengthen the quality of care for those living with mental illness through a demonstration project. On April 1, 2014, President Barack Obama signed into law the Excellence in Mental Health Act as part of the Protecting Access to Medicare Act.
