WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) released the following statement in light of reports that Secretary Leon Panetta will announce proposed cuts to the Department of Defense budget today:
“As I’ve repeatedly said, everything – including defense – must be on the table as we work to reduce our federal debt and spend taxpayer dollars as effectively as possible. However, we should not forget that our nation continues to face real enemies around the world who wish us harm, and I will not support any moves that ultimately weaken America’s ability to defend and protect ourselves.”
Senator Blunt currently serves as a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
