May 11, 2016

U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt was introduced Friday as a strong supporter of the Special Olympics program during his visit to Hermann High School — host for a 15-school track and field meet. Blunt, who co-sponsored the 2013 Eunice B. Kennedy Shriver Act to support school and integrated recreational programs for those with physical and intellectual disabilities, began his remarks during the opening ceremony quoting the Special Olympics motto “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” His open remarks were cut short when his microphone stopped working. “I guess I’m done,” said Blunt who turned and returned behind the line of city, school officials, and student athletes and chaperones. Bearcats Stadium on the Gasconade County R-1 School District’s campus was the site for an estimated 600 student athletes and young athletes and another 1,000 parents, chaperones, and special services faculty members.
