WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.), a member of the Appropriations Committee, today commended the U.S. Department of Transportation for awarding a $25 million Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant to replace the Buck O’Neil Bridge, which carries US 169 over the Missouri River in Kansas City. Blunt sent a letter to Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao earlier this year urging funding for the project.
“Replacing the decades-old Buck O’Neil Bridge is great news for the region and the thousands of people who travel over the Missouri River every day,” said Blunt. “The new bridge will have a wider span to reduce congestion and separate lanes for pedestrians and bicyclists to improve safety. I’ve been proud to advocate for funding for this much-needed infrastructure project, which will pave the way for stronger economic growth in the region.”
Blunt helped secure $1.5 billion for BUILD Grants, formerly known as TIGER Grants, in the FY2018 omnibus appropriations bill.
