Blunt Applauds Trump Administration’s Renewable Fuel Standard Announcement

October 04, 2019

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) released the following statement commending the Trump administration’s Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) announcement:

“Today’s announcement is great news for Missouri famers and the biofuels sector. At a time when corn growers are recovering from historic flooding and facing market uncertainty, this agreement will provide a much-needed boost. I appreciate the Trump administration’s willingness to listen to farmers and take action to strengthen America’s ethanol industry. I look forward to working with the administration to ensure the plan outlined in this agreement is implemented in a manner consistent with upholding the 15 billion gallon Renewable Fuel Standard and expanding access to E15.”

Blunt has repeatedly advocated for policies to promote a strong biofuels industry. In October 2018, Blunt commended the administration for moving to allow 15 percent ethanol blends (E15) to be sold year round. Blunt had previously advocated for the move in a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

In August 2018, Blunt led a bipartisan group of 35 senators in a letter to the EPA urging the agency to increase volume obligations for biomass-based diesel and advanced biofuel and ensure any small refiner economic hardship exemptions are appropriately accounted for in its final rule for the RFS.
