WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) released the following statement today applauding President Trump’s Executive Order on Protecting Vulnerable Newborn and Infant Children:
“President Trump and his administration have taken another meaningful step to protect the right to life. No child should be denied lifesaving treatment because of the circumstances of their birth. That view is in line with federal law and the values we hold as Americans. I’m proud to support the federal protections outlined in this Executive Order, and will work with the administration to prioritize resources for research aimed at enhancing the survival and healthy development of vulnerable newborns.”
The Executive Order helps ensure that vulnerable newborns, whether they are
born premature, with disabilities, or in the course of a failed abortion,
receive the care they are entitled to under current federal law. Blunt
helped introduce the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would
further protect newborns that survive failed abortions by requiring appropriate
care and admission to a hospital.
