Blunt Secures Missouri Priorities in Military Construction & VA Funding Bill

July 14, 2017

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that several key Missouri defense priorities were included in the committee-passed FY2018 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies (MilCon-VA) Appropriations Bill. The bill, which was unanimously approved by the full committee yesterday, also includes resources for veterans’ health care and benefits, and additional Department of Veterans Affairs programs.

“This bipartisan bill provides much-needed resources to help us honor the commitments we’ve made to our nation’s heroes,” said Blunt. “The bill also includes critical investments in Missouri defense installations, including the new NGA West headquarters. I’m pleased that we were able to move this bill with overwhelming bipartisan support, and I urge my colleagues to support the measure when it reaches the floor.”

Following are Key Blunt-Backed Missouri and National Defense Priorities Included in the Bill:

National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency West Headquarters – The bill provides $175 million for the construction of the New NGA West facility in North St. Louis. In June 2016, the NGA finalized its selection of North St. Louis as the site for the new NGA West headquarters. Since 2010, Blunt has led efforts to ensure that the NGA West facility, and the thousands of jobs it supports, remain in Missouri.

General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital (GLWACH) – The bill includes $100 million for construction of a new hospital at Fort Leonard Wood, which will replace the current GLWACH.

Rosecrans Air National Guard Base – The legislation provides $10 million for the construction of a communications facility at Rosecrans Air National Guard Base in St. Joseph, Mo. Rosecrans Air National Guard Base is the nation’s premier Air Guard training center for Advanced Airlift Tactical Training.

Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group – The bill includes $32 million for the construction of an aircraft maintenance hangar to support the Army National Guard’s Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group based in Springfield, Mo.
