WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Blunt (Mo.) released the following statement today after Senate Democrats once again blocked consideration of the FY 2016 Defense Appropriations Act:
“Congress’ most sacred responsibility is to keep our country safe. To do so, we must provide our military men and women the tools and resources they need to take on the threats we face. Senate Democrats failed to meet that obligation today, once again standing in the way a troop funding bill that is critical to our nation’s defense.
“The defense appropriations bill prioritizes investments that will ensure we maintain the most well-trained, well-equipped fighting force in the world. It provides the necessary resources for our troops at Whiteman, Rosecrans, Fort Leonard Wood, NGA, and Missouri National Guard installations across the state. It fulfills our commitment to our troops and their families, providing funding for a pay raise and medical care. And, it passed the committee on a strong, bipartisan vote of 27-3.
“Democrats have no excuse for standing in the way. They are simply holding this bill hostage to extract more government spending for bureaucracies like the EPA and the IRS. All spending is not created equal, especially when it comes to our obligation to fund our troops. It is time for Senate Democrats to put politics aside and do the right thing for our men and women in uniform.”
