WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) issued the following statement today after Gokul Venkatachalam of Chesterfield, Mo. was declared the co-champion of the 2015 Scripps National Spelling Bee last night, on May 28, 2015:
“Winning the National Spelling Bee is a huge accomplishment, and I’m proud to see a young Missourian take home the trophy this year. I congratulate Gokul on his hard work and commitment to success, and I wish him all the best in the future.”
In addition to Venkatachalam, Vanya Shivashankar of Olathe, Kan. was also declared co-champion during the finals last night.
