Senator Blunt Marks Memorial Day

May 30, 2016

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) released the following statement marking the observance of Memorial Day:

“On Memorial Day, we pause to remember our service men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice. To them we owe the very foundation on which our free and prosperous nation is built.  As we reflect on their deeds and honor their memory, we must also recommit ourselves to fulfilling the promises we have made to all of our veterans.

“We cannot, and will not, tolerate a system that allows veterans to wait months for care. We have made progress on bringing more accountability to the VA, but wait times are still too long and we will continue working to ensure every veteran has access to the quality, timely medical care they have earned.

“Though they may have fought centuries apart, our veterans are united by a common set of values that represent the best of America. Their actions are brave, their motives selfless, and their commitment unwavering. They are, in a word, heroes.

“As we take time to give thanks to all who have served, let us put our words of gratitude into action today, and every day that we enjoy the blessings of freedom our service members and veterans provide.”
