Blunt Questions DOT Secretary Nominee Buttigieg About Transportation Programs & Policies Important to Missouri

January 21, 2021

WASHINGTON - During a U.S. Senate Commerce hearing today, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) questioned Pete Buttigieg, the U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary nominee, about policies and programs that are important to Missouri’s economy and transportation network, including the Essential Air Service (EAS) and contract tower programs.

There are five airports in the state that depend on the contract tower program, including Joplin, Columbia, Branson, Jefferson City, and St. Joseph. The EAS program provides support for airports in Cape Girardeau, Waynesville-St. Robert, Joplin, and Kirksville.

Blunt helped secure resources for the programs in the FY2021 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies funding bill.
