VIDEO: Blunt on Tax Cuts & Jobs Act: “This Bill is About Changing the Future We Hand to Our Kids and Our Grandkids”

December 06, 2017

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) spoke on the Senate floor to urge his Senate colleagues to move forward on tax reform. Blunt noted that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which passed the Senate last week, will allow families to keep more of what they earn and lead to more jobs with better pay in the future. Following Blunt’s remarks, the Senate voted to begin negotiations with the House of Representatives on a final tax cut bill.

Following are excerpts from Blunt’s remarks:

“Last week when the bill passed, I said it wasn't just about changing the trajectory of our economy, it's about changing the future we hand to our kids and our grandkids. I really think, Mr. President, that's what this bill will do. …

“We need better jobs, we need higher wages, and we need the government to let people take home more of what they earn. This bill will allow them to do that. …

“Helping families has been and continues to be at the heart of what this whole debate should be about. At one end, more take-home pay. At another end, more competition that allows us to have better jobs to start with.”
