Senator Blunt Outraged By Alleged White House Leaks, Calls For Special Counsel To Investigate

WASHINGTON, D.C. – After meeting with Director of National Intelligence Clapper and FBI Director Mueller today, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.), a member of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, joined the growing chorus of Senators in calling for a special counsel to review the allegations surrounding White House leaks of classified national security information:

“What’s ‘grossly irresponsible’ is for the White House to tolerate politically motivated leaks of sensitive information that not only put our own national security interests at risk, but make it harder for allies to work with us.

It’s a crime to leak classified information on the part of a government employee, and it’s outrageous that the White House would allow these ongoing alleged disclosures to jeopardize the safety of our intelligence professionals and the well-being of the American people. I fully support moving forward with a special prosecutor to conduct an independent investigation immediately so that we can hold the appropriate people accountable.”
