Blunt Statement on Benghazi Committee Report
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.), a member of the Senate Selected Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement on the release of the proposed final report by the House Select Committee on Benghazi.
“Four Americans lost their lives in the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya,” Blunt said. “Chairman Gowdy and the members of the select committee have conducted a thorough and professional investigation to provide the answers their families, and the American people, deserve. The committee’s report sheds new light on the administration’s failures in Benghazi - from the security lapses that preceded the attack, to the delayed response that night, to the misleading claims that were made by senior officials in the days that followed. The report includes key recommendations to prevent another tragedy in the future, and I urge the administration to carefully consider those recommendations and do what is necessary to protect American lives.”
The select committee’s investigation included interviews with 80 people who had not been previously questioned by Congress, and yielded 75,000 pages of new documents. The entire report is available at benghazi.house.gov/NewInfo.
