Senator Blunt Commends House Passage Of Legislation To Stop Government Abuse
Blunt Introduced Several Measures As Senate Companion Bills, Urges Leader Reid To Allow Votes On Senate Floor
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) applauded the U.S. House of Representatives' passage of several measures today to empower Americans and end government abuse in the wake of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) targeting scandal.
Blunt is the Senate sponsor of two of the provisions that the House passed today -- the “Citizen Empowerment Act” (CEA) and the “Government Employee Accountability Act.”
"Americans are rightly concerned about government overreach and dysfunction. We need more transparency and accountability in Washington to restore citizens' trust. I'm pleased the House passed these important bills, and I urge Leader Reid to allow votes in the Senate," said Blunt.
The Citizen Empowerment Act provides Americans with a new tool to fight back against bureaucratic intrusion by expanding provisions included in current law that allow individuals to record conversations with executive agency employees. U.S. Representative Lynn Jenkins (Kans.) introduced the companion bill in the House.
The Government Employee Accountability Act would give executive agencies the mechanisms they need to effectively deal with Senior Executive Service (SES) employees, and provide Congress with more oversight. U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (Penn.) introduced the companion bill in the House.
