WASHINGTON – At a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies hearing today, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) questioned U.S. Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta about information released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that inaccurately claimed Cape Girardeau lost the most jobs of any U.S. city from January 2017 – October 2017.
Blunt noted that articles in the Wall Street Journal and USA Today cited the inaccurate report, which was based on preliminary data and subsequently updated in March 2018. The updated report found that Cape Girardeau gained jobs and outperformed many metropolitan statistical areas. Blunt pressed the Secretary on how to ensure this does not happen in the future.
