WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) spoke on the Senate floor to reiterate his support for Judge Neil Gorsuch’s nomination to serve on the United States Supreme Court. In his remarks, Blunt took Senate Democrats to task for signaling their intention to filibuster the nomination, citing Judge Gorsuch’s exceptional knowledge and qualifications, and the fact that Republicans have never mounted a partisan filibuster against a Supreme Court nominee.
Following is an excerpt from Blunt’s remarks:
“Judge Gorsuch’s performance during last week’s hearings leaves no doubt that he has the knowledge, temperament and experience required to serve on our nation’s highest court,” Blunt said. “He laid out a clear judicial philosophy that adheres to what most Americans and the framers of the Constitution want to see on the Supreme Court. In his own words, Judge Gorsuch said ‘I have one client, the law.’ And that’s the way our founders saw the Supreme Court.”
Last week, Blunt spoke on Gorsuch’s judicial experience, academic credentials, and the “well-qualified” rating he unanimously received from the American Bar Association, the highest possible rating from the ABA. That video is available here.
